Social media addiction

    Using social media has become an easy way for providing yourself entertainment. In most cases, it is a harmless way of spending free time. However, there is a possibility of becoming addicted to social media due to overuse. It turns out that social media increases the dopamine signals in your brain. The more you use it, the more dopamine you get and because of that your brain starts identifying the activity as a reward, something positive. Since that feeling is not permanent, you need to come back to the source of it which makes you use social media dangerously often. Some of the signs of social media addiction are: choosing social media over your job/schoolwork, increased usage during other activities, feeling angry when you are unable to use social media, using social media as a coping mechanism. If you feel like you’re might be experiencing social media addiction you should reach out to a mental health professional who’ll help you determine it your suspitions are right and eventually find a solution to the problem.
