The collapse of a bridge in Gurajat

On October 30 at around 6:30 local time a bridge in Morbi in Gujarat has collapsed. The bridge snapped in two which lead to the death of 135 people who either drowned in the river or were fatally injured after falling on to the stones below. There is no evidence that the company which was responsible for the earlier renovations has any experience in bridge repairs. Therefore there are allegations that corruption is to blame for the tragic accident. I think it’s unbelievably heartbreaking and unfair that all those people have lost their lives most likely because the government preferred to make a choice that is best for them and not for the citizens who they’re responsible for in a certain way. Politicians should be protecting people and acting in their favour and not exposing them to potential risks and hence possible injuries and even death.

  1. Unfortunately, such tragedies happen in the 1st world two. You may not remember the fire of Grenfell Tower in London (a block of council flats), in which almost 100 people died. The fire spread rapidly because of flammable materials used to insulate the building. Why were such cheap materials used against building regulations? The reasons are the same as in India - corruption or negligence.
